The President Welcomes Families of Attacked Military Soldiers to White House
Former President Donald Trump stated on the weekend that he has asked the family of a Guard member tragically killed last week to visit the executive mansion.
He added that he spoke to her parents and they were “heartbroken”.
Background on the Tragic Incident
US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a violent incident on Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her fellow service member, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in serious condition.
Memorials across the state have been held in their honor.
White House Call
The commander-in-chief stated he’s talked about a White House visit for the families of both members of the West Virginia National Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a difficult moment, arrive at the White House. We’re going to recognize Sarah,” Trump addressed reporters. “And similarly with Andrew, recover or not.”
Public Support
Community members assembled over the past few days at the high school in the state to honor Sarah.
Both they had been serving with the military unit as part of the president’s federal initiative to support law enforcement in DC.
Remembering the Soldier
“Sarah was the type of pupil that instructors desired. She conducted herself with quiet strength, a bright grin and a positive energy that encouraged those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the leader of her former high school, informed the media. “She was caring, compassionate and always ready to help others.”
Service arrangements for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Legal Measures and Government Changes
Officials have accused a 29-year-old individual from Afghanistan with one count of first-degree murder and two counts of assault with intent to kill while carrying a weapon.
The tragedy led the government to pause asylum processing and halt granting entry permits to owners of passports from Afghanistan.
Status of Andrew Wolfe
Wolfe, a resident of Martinsburg, enlisted in 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman high school, as reported by the Associated Press.
He continues to receive treatment and is “in a critical fight”, West Virginia governor Patrick Morrisey mentioned on television.
The state’s top lawyer Bondi told the program that she aimed to visit the family.
Legacy of Sarah Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from Summersville, completed her education from her high school in June 2023 and began her service not long after, working as a law enforcement officer with distinction, per the military.
“She had a lot of compassion and she definitely had fortitude,” he informed the gathering at the service. “Though her life ended too soon, she has made an impact that’s going to endure.”
