The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Mayor.
Although not quite at the identical stature as sparing festive fowl, but the county's top official had her own presidential-style act this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She deserves this act of mercy. She has committed zero crimes,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued since the commencement of a new presidential term.
“Unless you count eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence free from concern.”
The event, simultaneously observing and challenging the area's customary feast of feasting on pork during the holidays, was founded to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The pig, donated by a first responder, was christened after the modern linguistic fad of young people shouting “six-seven” – originating from a hip-hop line – often without clear purpose. The trend became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently declared “six-seven” its top term for the year.
A Future Secured
The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to begin the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.
“It embodies the essence of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Annually, we are honored to observe tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”
Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and cafecito as they marked the swine's new lease on life.
