Putin Pledges Uninterrupted Oil Deliveries to the Indian Nation in Rebuff of US Demands
Amid a unambiguous signal to Western nations, Leader Vladimir Putin informed PM Narendra Modi that Russia is prepared to maintain “continuous” supplies of oil to India. These remarks came when Putin and Modi met in the Indian capital and declared their bilateral ties were “resilient to foreign coercion.”
A Message Directed at the United States
Putin's comments, issued after the annual summit, was widely seen to be a direct challenge at the United States and its allies, who have repeatedly attempted to pressure New Delhi into reducing its close ties with Moscow. The backdrop comes after recent American measures, such as additional tariffs against Indian goods because of its acquisition of Moscow's energy exports.
“Moscow remains a trustworthy supplier of oil and gas and all required for the advancement of India’s industry,” Putin remarked. “We are ready to persist in securing the uninterrupted supply of energy for the fast-expanding Indian economy.”
Modi, though he did not naming energy explicitly, supported the focus by stating that “secure fuel supplies has been a strong and important cornerstone of the India-Russia partnership.”
Defying American Pressure
Before the meeting, via a media interview, Putin had criticized American pressure on India's oil imports. Putin stated, “Should America is entitled to buy our uranium, then why can't India enjoy the same privilege?”
This trip was his maiden visit to India following the onset of the situation in Ukraine, and Moscow and Delhi made a clear attempt to project that the personal rapport between the men persisted strongly.
An Unusual Greeting
In a rare step, Prime Minister Modi personally greeted Putin right off the plane. The two exchanged a hearty embrace as longtime companions before enjoying a private dinner the night before the summit.
Modi later described India's relationship with Russia as “a guiding star” and noted it was “built on mutual respect and deep trust.”
Reaffirming Strategic Ties
The bilateral summit produced a number of important deals regarding military and economic cooperation. A major outcome was the signing of an strategic roadmap aimed at 2030, which sets a goal to double mutual trade to a hundred billion USD annually by the target year.
Additionally vowed to recalibrate their military partnership. Although Russia remains India's biggest exporter of arms, the volume has declined over the past decade as India works to diversify its sources.
The official release emphasized cooperation in the joint production of sophisticated defence platforms, even if specific details of deals for the fifth-generation aircraft were left out.
Ultimately, both nations restated that amid the “ongoing challenging, strained, and uncertain geopolitical situation, Russian-Indian ties remain strong to foreign influence.”
