Fighters laugh as they ride on the back of a transport truck, racing alongside a series of nine lifeless forms and heading facing the setting African sun.

"Observe this extensive effort. Observe this act of mass destruction," one shouts.

He smiles as he points the camera on his own face and his companion combatants, their Rapid Support Forces identification visible: "These people will all perish in this manner."

The men are celebrating a massacre that relief organizations believe resulted in the deaths of in excess of two thousand individuals in the Sudanese urban center of the Darfur city in recent weeks.

A Community Cut Off from the World

Following their control of the urban area under encirclement for almost 24 months, from late summer the militia advanced to consolidate its dominance and prevent access for the remaining residents.

Orbital photography demonstrate that troops started to build a immense sand wall - a built-up sand barrier - surrounding the boundaries of the city, blocking entry points and preventing aid.

During the encirclement intensified, seventy-eight people were killed in an militia assault on a religious building on mid-September, while the UN said fifty-three more were killed in unmanned aircraft and cannon strikes on a refugee settlement in the autumn.

Explicit Recording Shows Defenseless People Gunned Down

In the early morning on late October the militia defeated the remaining military strongholds and seized the central headquarters in the urban area, the main facility of the Army Division, as the government forces pulled back.

One of the most disturbing recordings to emerge and examined showed the results of a massacre at a educational facility on the western side of the city, where scores corpses were visible spread across the floor.

An older individual wearing a white tunic was seated isolated amongst the victims. The individual looked to gaze as a militiaman carrying with a firearm moved along the stairs in the direction of the victim. Raising his rifle, the gunman discharged a single shot at the individual, who dropped to the surface still.

"For what reason is this one still alive," one fighter shouted. "Kill this person."

Space-based imagery taken on 26 October appeared to verify that executions were also performed on the thoroughfares of the city, based on a report issued by the university analysis team.

One witness who provided testimony stated they had witnessed "many of our kin being massacred - they were assembled in one place and each one murdered."

Paramilitary Officers Seek to Implement Damage Control

Following the events that ensued from the atrocity, militia leader acknowledged that his troops had carried out "atrocities" and said the events would be investigated.

Part of the arrested was after a report documenting his executions. Carefully choreographed and produced video shared on the paramilitary's official Telegram platform reveal the individual being led into a detention area at a jail on the edges of al-Fashir.

At the same time, the paramilitary force and associated social media channels commenced trying to reshape the narrative.

Posts presenting its combatants distributing supplies to inhabitants were shared by some individuals, while the force's media office released multiple clips claiming to display the compassionate treatment of army detainees.

In spite of the social media campaign being employed by the militia, their conduct in al-Fashir have provoked international condemnation.
