New York Jets Head Coach Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Incident

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he has been in contact with cornerback Kris Boyd and is confident the athlete will be OK after being shot in central New York in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn shared that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “upbeat” during a recent discussion.

“That’s what eases my mind, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn said Wednesday. “His wife and child, they are holding up and he is expected to recover fully.”

The coach did not know when Boyd would leave the medical facility, where he has been listed as serious yet stable.

“Still unsure,” the coach said. “Yet I must mention, just talking to him, he felt really upbeat. Once more, that puts my mind at ease, given his positive frame of mind and he’s talking that way.”

New York police issued surveillance images earlier this week of a man sought in the shooting of Boyd. A motive for the shooting is still being looked into and officials stated it remains uncertain if Boyd was the intended victim. No one else was hurt as confirmed by officials.

The shooting happened in the early morning on Sunday morning near the famous arena and the iconic square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was transported to a medical center after being shot in the abdomen, as reported. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn shared Boyd has been on his mind “a ton” since he heard about the shooting. Glenn added that Boyd and his wife are new parents to a newborn.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he has a new baby,” Glenn said. “I thought of his spouse, considering his child and I want to make sure that he’s OK. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.
“A certain process is underway, I’ll keep private, but I am pleased that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”

Boyd was inactive in the present campaign, his debut year with New York, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on mid-August with a shoulder issue that involved surgical repair.

Boyd came to New York as a new signing in spring and was expected to be a key part of a revamped special teams unit under Glenn and ST coordinator the special teams coach. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during a training camp practice on early August and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd has stayed involved with the squad all season long while healing from his surgery.

“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn said. “Certainly, he comes to the games all the time. He’s fully engaged. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he has been instrumental in guiding others.”

Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, spent his initial four years with Minnesota after his selection in the later rounds by the Vikings out of the University of Texas in the 2019 draft. He signed with the Arizona Cardinals in last year and later was with the Texans after that. Boyd agreed to a one-year deal worth $1.6m with New York in the spring.
