Dallas Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones Fined $250,000 for ‘Accidental’ Obscene Gesture at Fans

Widely circulated footage seemed to capture Jones making an obscene gesture at Jets fans, but Jones insists he was actually giving a thumbs-up to Cowboys fans in attendance as his team clinched a 37-22 victory.
“It was regrettable. That was essentially an interaction with our fans seated near me,” Jones stated during a radio appearance. “There was a swarm of Dallas supporters—not Jets fans, Cowboys fans. The whole venue was filled with enthusiasm for the Cowboys.”
He further clarified that the signal was completely unintentional, occurring amid the elation following the team’s final touchdown. “I simply put up the wrong digit,” he remarked. “It was inadvertently performed. I’m not kidding. If you want to call it accidental, you can. But it got corrected rapidly.”
Historical Precedent for Proprietor Penalties
This incident isn’t the first time an league proprietor has been fined for misconduct. Previous cases include:
- Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper was penalized $300K for tossing a beverage at fans in early 2024.
